The Evolving RunRio Trilogy in 2018

I was among the fortunate ones to have been around the first RUNRIO Trilogy in 2010. Races like these were not to be missed because 1) they form part of your tune-up races for marathons 2) they give you great competition from the best runners in the land and 3) they epitomized what a big race is yet give you personalized treatment. Of course a bonus treat was always, always getting a chance to see Coach Rio dela Cruz. Not only did he create RUNRIO Trilogy, he was the guy who started the Afroman-distance of 32K, hence became his monicker, the Afroman.

The spike in public interest for races resulted in more events, some less focussed on the athletics side and more bent on luring participants for the recreational side which is not at all too bad, except that someone had to keep the competition alive. Thus we ran witness to the evolution of the RUNRIO Trilogy — from the actual race routes, the size, design and quality of race uniforms and even content in lootbags and winner prizes. I think RUNRIO also pioneered in the so-called “united” or puzzle medals (3 medals that, when collected, will form one bigger medallion) and also tried to experiment on a super-sized “platito” medal in 2012-2014, when 42K marathon distance was already included in the loop.

2017 trilogy medals each looked good as stand-alone…but together, they volted i like magic!

trying on the 2018 RunRio Trilogy medals, may renaissance effect talaga!

Personally, I felt that last year was a renaissance of the athletic side of RUNRIO, that image and reputation of being premier in:

  • delivery of world-class routes and race execution
  • social responsibility by partnering with great advocacies
  • providing highest quality of running gears and medals
  • showing appreciation to customers and patrons with post-race awarding

And so, the question that begged to be asked: What’s in store for RUNRIO Trilogy in 2018? With a twinkle in the eye as if taunting, RUNRIO President and CEO Coach Rio quipped, ““This year promises to be exciting for us and for all those who want to join our runs…Running enthusiasts can look forward to the 2018 RUNRIO Trilogy not only as an avenue to push their limits but also to spend quality time with friends and family.”

Participants can also look forward to more exciting running activities in store for everyone. First is the 5k Family Run. For this race, teams must consist of two adults and two kids. Each kid must be 15 years or below to qualify. The 5k Barkada Run, on the other hand, is open to four adults each of whom must be 16 years of age or older. There is also the 10k Buddy Run which, is also for participants 16 years old and above.

As an added incentive for runners, participants who register in groups are entitled to a substantial discount on the registration fees.

But at the heart of RUNRIO TRILOGY will always be the pay-forward, post-race, culminating activities where super-achievers are honored and the fulfillment of raising funds are highlighted upstage.

GIRLS RUN THE WORLD #RTWG2016

quotesgram.jpgYou can ignore her, tease her, bypass or try to stop her — but GIRLS, those strong determined type, will always run your life. We used to be called the weaker sex but now we’ve evolved and compensated in so many more ways that the only thing weak about us is still an inhibition towards instant leadership; that, in ways we cannot always understand, is a role that is offered to men first, like a glove.

In a paternalistic world, competing as women is always a backstory of trying times and failure..and that whatever success achieved is always hard-earned and forever-cherished. Remember how these women inspired and motivated us to brave our passion? (http://www.viralnova.com/important-women/)

Oprah Winfrey‘s rag-to-riches to become the first African-American woman billionaire embodies the American Dream and encompasses the Woman of the World ideal.

In 1967, when women were not into sports, Katherine Switzer became the first woman to run the Boston Marathon, even if  the (male) race organizers tried to stop her mid-race.

And who could forget Amelia Earhart as the first woman to fly across the Atlantic Ocean in 1928. She attempted a circumnavigational flight of the globe in 1937, but mysteriously disappeared.

From our own backyard, we even have everyday heroines in our midst who prove that our place in the sun is no longer a question of gender. http://wethepvblic.com/9-strong-independent-filipinas-who-inspire-every-day/#.WBcJMfl97IU

Dwell in Possibility: Li-Ning Manila Run 12.03.16

I love mornings because the beginning of a brand-new day sets the stage for possibilities. Instead of stress and complications, possibilities of seeing things in a new light seep into our consciousness. Where there seemed endless reasons to worry the night before, possibilities of alternatives and even solutions make the load and work ahead more manageable. And where there was increased heart rate and muscle soreness in yesterday’s workout, possibilities of renewed strength brings fresh hope and a better understanding of body and mind.

li-ning-manila-run-2016-logoThat’s why the Li-Ning Manila Run is set to unfold its 2016 edition at the break of dawn on December 3, 2016, Saturday , along the panoramic view of Metro Manila at the SM Mall of Asia. The possibilities of being with friends and family, having a great time and even breaking your PR (personal record) may be statistically significant and highly achievable!

The very first Li-Ning Manila Run was held last year, June 28, 2015, at Seaside Boulevard and Palm Coast Avenue in Mall of Asia Pasay City. Thousands of participants composing of run enthusiasts and first-time runners, local and foreign athletes, professionals and students, children and the physically challenged runners, answered the call to help promote the brand’s campaign “make your own way” by wearing the different colorful designs of the Li-Ning Quick Dry singlets.

This year, the emerging global sports brand takes your journey to a different level of possibilities.

A specially designed Quick Dry singlet is included in the 5 KM, 10 KM and 21 KM racekits.
