Forerunner® 645 Music to Keep You on the Run!

Not many runners like to admit that they like or even prefer music on the run. Back when I was a newbie, I let myself get persuaded into thinking that junking the MP3 player meant serious, competitive and highly performing races. It definitely could be learned, running for almost endless kilometers with just a mantra in my head to keep me mentally-focused. For years, it was a well-kept secret that even if I didn’t listen to music, there was always a song playing in my mind and notes ringing in my ears.

At the end of day, I still went back to the songs that motivated me to run hard and run long, especially on those days when you actually don’t feel like working out. Call it the perfect escape, but for music to the beat of the run, one would probably use 1. A mobile phone or MP3 player tucked inside a sports armband, supplemented by wired earphones,  or a  more contemporary wireless in-ear music player hinged to your head. Despite these well-meaning options, it was always a techy dream to have a GPS watch with the capability to play great music instead of having to bear the burden of running with too many gadgets.

If it were any consolation, I knew that Garmin will be first in this niche of wearables, primarily because Garmin listens to its millions of global users who believe in their technology and business philosophy. Hence when the Garmin Forerunner 645 Music was unveiled to the market in May 2018, I got in line really fast.

stretched out on its soft silicone strap, the watch is as long as a standard chopstick.

I gushed over its female-wrist friendly size, just a little bigger than the old 5=peso coin.

As usual, Garmin had already perfected the art of fast-charging with sleep charger cables to boot.

After unboxing the F654M, I was immediately drawn to its typical Garmin watch interface. Having been a user and advocate of Garmin for years, navigation with its standard menu was a breeze. I knew I only had to learn how to store my songs into the watch, sync my bluetooth earphones with the watch system and ensure that battery power is sufficient — and I was out the door in an instant.

The analog-face option still makes me feel sporty and classy!

Uploading my stats in Garmin Connect has become a daily personal and training habit.

Despite my excitement to get the beat on my run, I managed to figure out to set up the music first, then the workout controls. It felt really liberating that I just had this lightweight-but-feature-packed GPS watch on my wrist and I was “cruising” at 180 bpm tempo to the tune of Macklemore’s Can’t Hold Us.

At water or walk intervals, I got to check my heart-rate and all those other running-specific metrics that let you know you got a Garmin and not just any other sportswatch.

What are the things I really love about the F645M? Listen up.

  • can store and play up to 500 songs and functions pretty much like an audio-player from controls to playlists (Sound quality depends on both the player and earphones, so make sure you are also using high quality earphones to get the best out of your F645M.)

  • lightweight with soft silicone strap-bands that fits well even for small wrists like mine

  • sunlight-visible display as I am definitely a morning person!

  • training-accurate sensors (GPS, GLONASS, Garmin Elevate™ wrist-HRM and accelerometer)

  • great connectivity using Bluetooth®, ANT+®, Wi-Fi®

Who says we cannot stay competitive with music on the run?  It’s all about the beat that can pump you up all the way to a strong finish.

This is how Garmin Philippines (NAVCO Inc.) President sums this beauty F645M up

With up to 500 songs right in your watch, we’re putting the “beat” in your daily mission to beat yesterday with the  Forerunner® 645 Music.  It includes smart notifications plus the ability to send pre-written responses to text messages, automatic uploads to the Garmin connect app and the ability for others to track your runs with the LiveTrack feature.

On top of its multi-sport features (cycling, yoga, rowing, pool swimming, elliptical cardio and more), it has Garmin’s Advanced Running Dynamics and performance monitoring tools that is housed in a 42.2g watch that lasts up to 7 days of continuous use.  Advanced Running Dynamics enables you to know your ground contact time, vertical oscillation, cadence, stride length, and more –  these  are more important data that are important to help you perform better and something that no smartphone or other smartwatches can do.
