ATRESIA, as defined in medicine.net, is absence or closure of a normal opening, or failure of a structure to be tubular. In the case of biliary atresia, the bile from the liver cannot be removed by the body, which means wastes and toxins are retained, leading to fatal cirrhosis and multiple organ failure.
Imagine biliary atresia as a rare birth defect with a likely prognosis of liver cirrhosis and even death, and the only medical intervention with any success rate possible is a liver transplant.
Now, imagine an angel nicknamed “Baby Tibay”, born 2015 and has since been fighting biliary atresia. Empathize as parents not having the means to alleviate Bay Tibay’s suffering with an immediate operation that will cost a whooping Php 4.5million. Close your eyes and remember how you raised your children or how you were raised as a kid — free from disease, and having a full life ahead of you. Let’s give Baby Tibay and his parents the gift of FAITH, HOPE AND LOVE by helping raise funds for this life-saving liver transplant. Through the auspices of the Pinoy Aspiring Runners (PAR) a benefit funrun will be staged on Baby Tibay’s 2nd birthday on April 9, 2017, convening at Plaza Burgos in Guagua, Pampanga.
The organizers are hoping to attract runners, not only from Pampanga but also from neighboring provinces and Metro Manila. After all, there are great fun-filled race distances to choose from:
